Have a phone chat first

phone chat

So you’ve been frequenting online dating sites for a while now. You found someone you really liked and you exchange a couple of e-mails. You get the proper amount of replies so you’re thinking that everything is going along well. So you decide to meet him or her face to face. For your actual first date.

But don’t you think it’s a little soon for that just yet? E-mails are one of the amazing features that online dating services give you but correspondence through them isn’t exactly the most accurate measure for gauging a relationship! The problem is emails are severely limited. You think about what you write thoroughly because you want to project the correct image. What you write could be different from what you say or do. As opposed to talking on the phone where the reaction is instant and spontaneous.

That doesn’t mean that all online daters are posers though. A lot of online daters today are now truthful in their profiles. But still, a well written profile still doesn’t mean that he could communicate real-time just as well. You may not fall in the same wavelength. Or maybe he or she talks too fast when in actual conversations. There are also the words that s/he uses to consider. Dies s/he use jargon often or just plain foul? You never know unless you talk to them firsthand.

So take the time to have a phone chat with your online partner before agreeing to meet. There are several programs that could even offer you video conferencing but protect your personally identifiable information at the same time. Try Skype or Yahoo messenger for such online dating services.

It is always a good idea to do so because this way, you’ll get to find out more about your potential date. If you already feel uncomfortable talking to them over the phone then there’s no need to put yourself through such awkwardness on an actual date is there? Plus, it’s just online and does not require physical presence so it’s relatively safe. Just be sure to get all of the facts you need to help you make a just decision.
